Lipid anchorage, animation. Many of the proteins found within the cell are anchored to the lipid bilayer through covalent attachment to a hydrocarbon chain. Here, a newly synthesised protein (light blue) is removed from the membrane via the action of an enzyme (scissors). The c-terminal amino acid of the protein then covalently bonds with the headgroup of a lipid within the cell membrane. | |
