Magnetic chaos pendulums. Animated simulation of magnets and pendulums being used to demonstrate chaotic movement. This simulation has six magnets, and starts with one pendulum, rising to four. The motion of each pendulum, consisting of a metal ball on a thread, is influenced by the magnets, the other pendulums, the force of gravity, and a certain amount of air friction. The resulting movement looks irregular. While the movement is deterministic, the path traced by the pendulums will depend on the starting conditions. This is known as deterministic chaos. | |
