Silver orb weaver spider (Argiope sp.) waiting patiently for prey to land in its web. The zig-zag patterns in portions of the web are the stabilimentum, the purpose of which is not definitely known. The bodies of these spiders can reach more than 25 mm across and can be found throughout much of the southeastern U.S. and elsewhere. | |
