Female Macleays spectre (Extatosoma tiaratum), sometimes called the giant prickly pear stick insects, rocking back and forth as if blown by the wind. These large insects can reach lengths of 20 cm and are indigenous to Australia and New Guinea. This adult female is covered with thorn-like spikes used for defense and camouflage. | |
