Honeybee (Apis mellifera) queen, the larger bee near center of frame, seeking empty brood cells in which to deposit her eggs. She is constantly tended to by other bees who are responsible for feeding and grooming her. The queen's only function is to reproduce and she will lay as many as 2, 000 eggs a day in the spring. | |
