American spider beetle (Mezium americanum) are food and stored product pests and are known to contaminate a wide variety of foodstuffs. These tiny beetles measure just 3 mm in length and are distinguished by their glassy abdomens and spider-like appearance. These beetles are marvels of nature and are able to survive freezing temperatures and can go seven years without drinking water. They are found in North and Central America and Australia and are thought to be of African origin. | |
