| Timelapse of the night sky over the Paranal Observatory, Cerro Paranal, Chile. The telescopes seen here are the 1.8 metre axillary telescopes of the Very Large Telescope (VLT). The use of these telescopes helps the VLT to produce an image equal to that obtained by a telescope almost 100 metres in diameter. The VLT is located at an altitude of 2600 metres in Chile's Atacama Desert. | |
