Tycho crater. Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) zoom-in to show detail of the Tycho crater on the Moon. This impact crater is in the southern lunar highlands. Material collected from it during the Apollo 17 mission dates its formation to approximately 108 million years ago, making it relatively young. The central peak (seen here) measures 1.6 kilometres tall. The LRO, which orbits the Moon, was launched on 18th June 2009. | |
