| Angiography of an aneurysm (dark round area) near the termination of the right internal carotid artery inside the brain, at the Circle of Willis. An aneurysm is a blood-filled bulge in a blood vessel. In the brain it can put pressure on surrounding tissues as it swells, causing a variety of symptoms including nausea, vision disturbances and headache. If it ruptures it leads to a brain haemorrhage, a type of stroke, which can be fatal. Angiography is an imaging technique in which a radio-opaque contrast medium is injected into the blood, causing them to show up on X-rays. | |
