Knife being used to collect the latex of a Sangre de Grado tree (Croton lechleri). The latex has oozed out of the bark after being cut with a knife. The thick red latex gives the plant its common name, which translates to 'Dragon's blood'. The red latex has antioxidant and medicinal properties, and is used by native peoples as a liquid bandage for wound coverings. Filmed in Ecuador. | |
