Zoom into the spiral galaxy NGC 4666. The bright star at bottom right at the start of the zoom is Gamma Virginis. This galaxy is home to an unusually large amount of starbirth activity, and is thus considered a starburst galaxy. The rapid rate of starbirth, and the giant short-lived stars it produces, have created a superwind of hot gas blowing tens of thousands of light years into space. The galaxy lies some 80 million light years from Earth in the constellation Virgo.<br>Restrictions: | |
