Zoom into the spiral galaxy NGC 300. This is one of the closest spiral galaxies to our Milky Way, lying just over six million light years away. It has numerous large and prominent starbirth regions in its spiral arms, which are revealed by the bright pink glow of ionised hydrogen in nebulae. The galaxy lies in the constellation Sculptor, in the direction of the nearby Sculptor Group of galaxies, but it is thought to be a foreground object rather than being physically associated with the group.<br>Restrictions: | |
