Zoom into the centre of the globular cluster 47 Tucanae (NGC 104, or 47 Tuc). This is a large and prominent globular cluster, having a diameter of some 120 light years, and containing millions of stars. Globular clusters are spherical groups of old stars that orbit the centre of a galaxy. Our Milky Way is thought to have around 180 such clusters associated with it. 47 Tucanae lies around 16, 700 light years from Earth in the constellation Tucana.<br>Restrictions: | |
