Zoom into the starburst galaxy NGC 1313, an irregular galaxy sometimes referred to as the Topsy Turvy galaxy, due to its unusual shape. Although superficially spiral, the distribution of stars is unlike normal spiral galaxies, with a widespread population of hot blue stars, lopsided spiral arms and an off-centre rotational axis. It is not known what caused this odd structure. The galaxy is located some 15 million light years away in the constellation Reticulum.<br>Restrictions: | |
