The Crab Nebula (M1, NGC 1952, Taurus A) is a supernova remnant and pulsar wind nebula. The supernova explosion that formed it was observed from Earth in 1054 AD. In the nebula's centre lies a pulsar: a neutron star with the same mass as the Sun but it only a few kilometres in diameter. The Crab Pulsar rotates about 30 times each second, emitting radiation across the spectrum. The nebula and pulsar lie around 6500 light years from Earth in the constellation Taurus.<br>Restrictions: | |
