Heliozoan, or sun animalcule, microscopy. Heliozoa are rounded amoeboids with many stiff, microtubule-supported projections called axopods radiating outward from the cell surface, giving them the sun-like appearance for which they are named. The axopods serve various purposes including capturing food, sensation, movement and attachment. Heliozoa are found in both freshwater and marine environments. | |
