Wild grasses blow in the wind in this view of the Great Plains in South Dakota. The Great Plains is a broad expanse that covers much of the central U.S. and was once home to millions of American bison which grazed here. The bison were hunted by American Indians tribes, the ancestors of whom still live here. This area was once covered by a vast inland sea that receded and left behind this relatively flat terrain rich in marine sediments. | |
