Steam rises from geothermal plant in the Geysers area of northern California. Geothermal energy is derived from the natural heat of the earth which causes water to turn to steam to power turbines that generate electricity. Because of its location above the ''ring of fire'' and tectonic plate zones, California has more geothermal generating capacity than any other state. | |
