Dileptus swims past camera flailing its neck to and fro in search of food, it's large contractile vacuoles and cilia clearly visible. Cilia are used in locomotion and contractile vacuoles are used to control the amount of water within a cell and to keep it from bursting. This ciliate measure approximately 500 microns in length and was recorded under Nomarski illumination. | |
