Two Dilepti flailing their necks to and fro in search of food, their large contractile vacuoles and cilia clearly visible. Cilia are used in locomotion and contractile vacuoles are used to control the amount of water within a cell and to keep it from bursting. These ciliates measure approximately 500 microns in length and were recorded under Nomarski illumination. | |
