Paramecium caudatum collides with fellow ciliate Didinium nasutum which stabs it with a seizing organ that quickly paralyzes the protozoan. The Didinium then swims back and forth as it attempts to engulf the Paramecium. A second Didinum enters the scene and latches onto the Paramecium as well. Didinium can reach a size of 150-200 microns. Recorded under Nomarski DIC illumination. | |
