New world army ants (Eciton burchelli) stream across rainforest floor while foraging in French Guiana. Soldiers with larger, lighter colored heads and larger jaws protect the column, and will be the first to engage enemies. Army ant colonies are on the move all the time and do not form permanent nests. | |
