Flesh flies (Sarcophaga bullata) and green bottle flies (Lucilla sp.) gather on bags of garbage thrown into open dump in French Guiana. Open dumps are common in undeveloped nations and are breeding grounds for disease carrying flies and rodents. On the plus side, the flies contribute to the growth of social spider populations in the area of the dumps. | |
