Yeast plasmids (circular DNA, purple) are shown to be protected with the addition of telomeres from the protozoan Tetrahymena, enabled by the enzyme Telomerase. This demonstrates that the telomeres (book-end DNA, blue) have an evolutionarily-conserved structure and function, as yeast and protozoa are completely different types of organism. | |
