Albireo, or Beta Cygni, photographed on 10 September 2015. Albireo is a double star, meaning two stars which appear very close to one another when observed from Earth. Albireo is located 420 light-years away from the Sun, in the constellation Cygnus (swan). It is not know whether these two stars orbit one another as a binary star system, or are just beside one another optically. The larger component, Albireo A appears orange and is around 20 times larger than the Sun, whilst Albireo B is around 2.7 times larger than the Sun and appears blue. | |
