Decidual cast from a 21 year old female patient. A decidual cast is when the uterine lining sheds all at once in a large piece as opposed to in drips like the menstrual period. A decidual cast sheds in nearly exact shape of the uterine cavity, so it is usually pear or triangle-shaped. Although it is often harmless, it can sometimes be a sign of pregnancy loss or an ectopic pregnancy. There are also links to the use of hormonal contraceptives in developing this condition. Passing a decidual cast can be painful and cause severe stomach cramps. Once passed, the symptoms may go away immediately. | |
