Light micrograph of collagen fibres which are hyalinized. Hyalinization takes place when the collagen substance becomes acellular (lacking cells) and takes on a homogenous dark pink colour. In this case, the hyalinized collagen was present in a papillary thyroid carcinoma (a kind of thyroid cancer). Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 200x when printed at 10cm. | |
