Container with ash from incinerated low-level radioactive household waste and scraped vegetation/topsoil from the Fukushima nuclear disaster is transported inside a decontaminated waste facility in Fukushima, Japan. The ash from the bags is mixed with concrete (in a linear process) to form large concrete blocks. These blocks are transported to a landfill site. after the Fukushima nuclear disaster. The Fukushima nuclear disaster, on 11th March 2011, was triggered after a magnitude 9.0 earthquake occurred 130 kilometres off the east coast of Japan causing a devastating tsunami. The tsunami damaged the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station, leading to the meltdown of three of the nuclear reactors and a leak of radioactive material. | |
