Perched pied kingfisher (Ceryle rudis). This boldly-patterned bird catches its prey by plunge-diving into rivers, marshes and coastal waters. It feeds on fish, crustaceans and large insects, catching them in its long, tapering beak. This kingfisher is found in much of Africa, as well as India, the Middle East and South-East Asia. Photographed at Intaka island bird sanctuary near Cape Town, South Africa. | |
