Adult Cape fox in the Auob riverbed at dawn. The Cape fox (Vulpes chama) is a small fox, measuring up to 60 centimetres, that inhabits the grasslands and savannahs of southern Africa. It is mostly nocturnal and lives alone or in pairs in dens. It feeds on small rodents, rabbits, reptiles, insects and a little plant matter.
