Pincer nail deformity in a Hispanic female patient's toenail. This is a congenital (present from birth) deformity caused by a narrowing of the nail bed towards the tip of the nail. This leads to a thickened curved nail that digs into the toe causes pain, inflammation and recurrent infections. It most often affects the big toenails. Braces or wires can be used to flatten the nails, or the nail bed can be reconstructed surgically. | |
