Alpine goats. The two breeds in this herd are Alpine goats and Oberhasli. Alpine goats originate from the French Alps. It is a medium to large sized goat breed that's especially known for its good milking ability. It's commonly kept on farms due to the fact that it can produce 1-2 gallons of milk per day. They're quite a diverse breed, not having any set colours or markings. Adults have horns (that may be removed, as here), erect ears, and an overall straight profile. They also thrive in virtually any climate. Goats are herbivores and can sometimes climb trees in search of leaves. In France much of the goat milk is made into cheese. | |
