Boyle's Law demonstration. Several marshmallows are placed inside of a vacuum bell. The bell is connected to a vacuum pump. A pressure gauge is used to monitor the pressure. When the pump is turned on, the gauge shows that the pressure decreases inside the bell and thus inside the gas trapped in the marshmallow bubbles. The overall volume of the marshmallows dramatically increases. According to the Boyle's Law, the volume of gas inside the bubbles must increase with the decreasing pressure. | |
