Western harvester ant (Pogonomyrmex occidentalis) swarm in Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge, Wyoming, USA. These ants mate in flight in the summer, one or two days after heavy rain. The male ants die shortly after mating whilst fertilized queens attempt to found new colonies. | |
