Grape cultivation hollows in the region of La Geria in Lanzarote, Canary Islands. Some of the volcanic cones of Timanfaya National Park can be seen in the background along with crescent-shaped walls, called zocos, made from volcanic pumice to protect the grapes. The hollows in the volcanic ash act as moisture traps as well as wind protection for the grapes. | |
