The mountain range to the west of the Dead Sea, Israel, viewed from the shoreline at Ein Gedi, just north of Masada National Park. The Dead Sea lake surface is about 430 metres below mean sea level and it is the lowest inland sea in the world. Its shoreline has, however, been receding for many years and the yellow, salty area in this image would originally have been under water. | |
