Weathered Jurassic sandstone, Burton cliff, Dorset, UK. The sandstone cliffs were laid down in the Jurassic and are a popular tourist attraction. However, the cliffs are prone to collapse, landslide and rock fall. The western part of the Chesil beach at Burton Cliff Dorset is gradually diminishing in width and losing its fine shingle. The cliff of Bridport Sands with inferior oolite at the top is being undercut as waves more frequently abrade the foot of the cliff leading to rock falls and collapse. | |
