Black knapweed (Centaurea nigra). This knapweed flowers between June and September in grasslands. Once very common, since 1945 the UK has lost 95 percent of its old meadows. The top right flower has tiny common pollen beetles (Brassicogethes aeneus) although their function as pollinators is unclear. | |
