European crab apple (Malus sylvestris 'John Downie') tree that has fruit damaged by the apple fruit rhynchites (Rhynchites aequatus), a weevil that lays its eggs on several members of the rose family. The larva live in and mine the fruit. Attacked apples remain marked, although the holes tend to close up as the fruitlets grow. | |
