Bronze Female winged figure. Hammered bronze with inlaid bone eyes. It is not know whether this was only a bust or formed part of a statue. It has been interpreted as a divine or daemonic being, Nike or a Sphinx. It is one of the rarest and most valuable examples of a hammered bronze around a wooden former, indicative of the early construction techniques of bronze statues. From an Ionian or Laconian workshop. 590-580 BC. Olympia Archaeological Museum. | |
