Illustration of from the 1st edition of Jules Verne's 1865 science fiction novel 'From the Earth to the Moon, ' depicting the passengers in Verne's space ship enjoying their first taste of weightlessness. From the Earth to the Moon (1865) is a novel by Jules Verne. It tells the story of the Baltimore Gun Club, and their attempts to launch 3 people in a projectile to land on the moon. The story is notable in that Verne attempted to do calculations as to the requirements for the cannon and some of his figures are remarkably accurate. The sequel, Around the Moon (1870), deals with what happens to the men in their travels. The two novels were later combined to create A Trip to the Moon and Around It. | |
