Facsimile of a revenue stamp, introduced into the American colonies with the Stamp Act of 1765. This had to appear on every kind of publication, including legal and commercial papers and licenses. The Stamp Act of 1765 was a tax imposed by the British Parliament on the colonies of British America. It was deplored and resisted by the Americans, whose rallying cry of 'No Taxation without Representation' helped foment the American Revolution. | |
