Active galaxy NGC 1068, composite image. NGC 1068 (M77) is a barred spiral galaxy about 47 million light years away in the constellation of Cetus. This image combines X-ray and visible light data showing hot gas blowing from the centre of the supermassive black hole. High-energy X-rays (blue/green) are observed by the Chandra X-ray telescope, while the visible light data is from the Hubble Space Telescope (HST, red). | |
