Edward Salisbury Dana (1849-1935), American mineralogist. Edward was the son of James Dwight Dana, another famous mineralogist. Edward improved the classification system of the Swedish mineralogist Jons Berzelius. Dana's system, which classified mineral samples on the basis of their chemistry and molecular structure, is widely used today in an expanded form. Dana was Honorary President of the Mineralogical Society of America from 1926-1935. | |
