Wendelstein 7-X stellarator in shutdown phase, Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP), Greifswald, Germany. When it was built the Wendelstein 7-X was the world’s largest stellarator type fusion device. Its objective was to investigate the suitability of this type of reactor for a power plant. To do this it will produce plasma discharges lasting up to 30 minutes to demonstrate continuous operation. Photographed in 2019. | |
