Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of a human larynx (voicebox). The larynx is the lower part of the throat, and forms part of the upper respiratory tract. Air from the mouth and nose passes through the larynx to reach the lungs. The larynx contains the vocal cords (inverted V-shape), where air passing out of the lungs resonates to produce vocal sounds. In the foreground are the pyriform sinuses and the arytenoid folds. | |
