Site of Project Gasbuggy, a 1967 nuclear explosion designed to fracture rock to extract natural gas. The project was part of Operation Plowshare, a government program aimed at finding peaceful uses for nuclear explosions. It worked as planned, except that the gas that was liberated was too radioactive to be used. The pipes and several concrete pads are all that's left of the project aboveground. | |
