Clinton Joseph Davisson (1881-1958), US physicist and Nobel laureate. Davisson was educated at Chicago and Princeton, and during World War I worked for what became the Bell Telephone Company, where he spent the rest of his career. Davisson shared the 1937 Nobel Prize in Physics with George Paget Thomson. The share of the Nobel was awarded for Davisson's experimental discovery in 1927 of the diffraction of electrons by crystals. This demonstrated wave-particle duality and is now used in structural analysis. | |
