Model of astronauts performing extravehicular activity (EVA) outside the Columbus module of the International Space Station (ISS). The module, provided by the European Space Agency (ESA), was launched into orbit and then attached to the ISS on 11th February 2008. Columbus, 7 metres long and 4.5 metres wide, is a laboratory module where science experiments are carried out in standard racks. The ISS orbits the Earth at an altitude of around 360 kilometres, has been crewed since late 2000. | |
