Panel painting by an anonymous artist, depicting the tax administration office (biccherna) of Siena, Tuscany, Italy. A tax collector and his colleague are portrayed sitting behind a table whilst six people stand in front. On the wall, there is a painting of the Maria Assunta (white, centre) with Saint Bernardino of Siena (left) and Saint Catherine of Siena (right). To the far right and left of the painting, there are two figures of members of the Servite Order, a catholic religious order. The inscription says that the building is part of Siena's tax office from 1451-1452. | |
